Planning guideline

Event security staffing — a planning guideline

There is no single legal guard-to-attendee ratio in Ontario. A widely used planning starting point is roughly one guard per 75-100 attendees, adjusted up for higher-risk events. Use the table to gauge a starting count, then we right-size it to your venue, alcohol, hours, and access points.

Approx. attendanceLower-risk starting pointHigher-risk starting point
Up to 1001-2 guards2-3 guards
100-2502-3 guards3-5 guards
250-5003-5 guards5-7 guards
500-1,0006-10 guards10-14 guards

Guideline only — not a legal standard. Real guard counts depend on alcohol service, access points, crowd profile, seating, hours, and any municipal permit conditions. We provide a specific staffing plan after reviewing your event.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are your security guards licensed in Ontario?

Yes — every Warriorz security guard holds a valid Ontario Private Security and Investigative Services Act (PSISA) licence, verified before placement and re-checked at renewal. To hold that licence, an Ontario guard must complete the Ministry-mandated basic training program (a minimum of 40 hours, including Emergency First Aid and CPR) and pass the provincial security guard test. Beyond the legal minimum, our guards complete internal certification in de-escalation, emergency response, and Use of Force reporting, and are dispatched and supervised 24/7. Warriorz is fully insured and bonded as an Ontario security company. The practical benefit for you: every guard on your site can produce proof of a current PSISA licence on request, so you can demonstrate compliance to your own board, insurer, or auditor without taking it on trust.

How much does event security cost?

Event security is priced by guard count, event duration, expected attendance, and risk profile — a private corporate function needs far fewer guards than a licensed festival, so the range is wide. Alcohol service, venue layout, the number of access points, and whether you need bag checks or crowd flow management all push the count (and therefore the cost) up or down. Because the guard count is the main lever, we assess your venue, crowd size, and entry points first, then build a specific staffing plan and an all-in written quote rather than quoting blind. Every guard assigned is PSISA-licensed, which event venues and municipal permit conditions in Ontario frequently require you to be able to demonstrate. Share your event date, venue, expected attendance, and whether alcohol is served, and we typically return a tailored written quote within one business day.

How many guards do I need for my event?

There is no single legal ratio, so the honest answer is "it depends on your specific event" — but a widely used industry planning guideline is roughly one guard per 75-100 attendees, adjusted up for higher-risk events. Treat that as a starting point, not a rule: alcohol service, the number of access points, the crowd profile, late hours, and whether the event is seated or standing all change the real number. A seated corporate gala of 300 may need only a handful of guards, while a standing licensed event of the same size can need noticeably more. We recommend a specific staffing plan after reviewing your event details — attendance, venue layout, alcohol, hours, and any permit conditions — so you are staffed to your actual risk rather than to a generic formula that could leave you over- or under-covered.

Which areas of Ontario do you cover?

Warriorz provides security across Ontario — including Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Ottawa, London, Kitchener, and Cambridge — coordinated from regional hubs in the GTA, the Tri-Cities, Eastern Ontario, the Southwest, and the North. Because we are a service-area business rather than a single storefront, coverage is organised around where guards are deployed, not a fixed address, which lets us staff multi-site portfolios that cross municipal boundaries. Every deployment is backed by a 24/7 operations centre with GPS-verified patrols and real-time reporting, so a guard in a remote northern site is supervised the same way as one in downtown Toronto. If your property is in the province, we can usually staff it; tell dispatch your specific location and we will confirm coverage and lead time for that area.
